    NEW DELHI-
India's most premier B-School, the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has initiated a managerial programme on HIV/AIDS.

The aim is to encourage professional management of national and international HIV/AIDS prevention and control programmes.

"There are a fair amount of managerial challenges which exist in managing prevention of AIDS in India. It is these issues that this programme will address," said Bakul Dholakia, Director, IIM-A.

The pilot batch, which began in the end of December, got an overwhelming response. The institute is thus looking at increasing its batches to 45 students.

"We will obviously look for tie-ups with those who are making policies in AIDS prevention and we will also look for tie-ups with top international agencies working in this field," said Dholakia.

    Teaching officers

IIM-A is now being asked by state governments to conduct programmes for their district level officers.

The institute is working on a course for government officials in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh to teach them how to better handle the ongoing HIV/AIDS programmes.
