Southern Region:

Blood Donation camps organised for various companies in Chennai


On the occasion of World AIDS Day, and in sync with the Safe Blood campaign that CII launched in November 07', several blood donation camps were organised in Chennai. The camps ran for 16 days, covering different companies that include: Nokia, TCS, Xansa Technologies, Hexaware, Ucal Exports, Standard Chartered Bank, Scope International, Allsec Technologies, Pepsico Holdings etc.



In Trichy, CII also organised awareness walk comprising of representatives and employees of leading corporate houses along with students from various institutions. Mr. Premanathan, Chairman, CII Trichy delivered the opening address and enumerated the cause of the walk was to create an awareness among everyone. Mr. B V Ramanan, Past President, CII, read out a pledge, on behalf of the companies. Mr. Moorthy IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, flagged off the corporate walk.

In Coimbatore, CII distributed IEC material and on HIV/AIDS and condoms to truckers. The pamphlets were distributed in hospitals as well. In all around 6000 condoms and 300 pamphlets were distributed.


Northern Region:

Training the HR Professionals on HIV/AIDS


An advocacy and training programme was organised in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh for HR Professionals from companies located in Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh, Parwanoo and Kala Amb. Himachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (HPSACS) was the resource agency.

Dr V B Sood, State AIDS programme officer from HPSACS said that, India's dream to be a developed nation by 2020, could only be achieved if the business community rises and take the challenge to fight HIV/AIDS. He elaborated on how HIV/AIDS has become a socio-economic problem and has spread from metropolitan city to rural areas.

He then shared the number of HIV/AIDS cases in Himachal Pradesh since 1992, which were 2511 with majority of the cases present in the districts - Kangra and Hamirpur. Further, he mentioned that HPSACS would be starting STD Clinic and Mobile Dispensary to reach out to industries on regular basis at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Baddi.

Mr Rajender Guleria, Chairman, CII Himachal Pradesh State Council spoke about CII's engagements in combating HIV/AIDS though workplace intervention, and accessing the helpline at Chandigarh, which is available in four languages - Hindi, English, Punjabi and Urdu.

Mr Vishal Acharya, State Programme Officer - IEC of HPSACS, shared Information, Education and Communication methods adopted by State AIDS Control Society and shared the availability of Integrated Counselling and Testing Centers, (ICTCs) present in Nalagarh and Solan.

Session concluded with participants sharing a detailed work plan and strategy on organising sensitisation sessions on HIV/AIDS in their company.

Awareness session on HIV/AIDS organised at for students in Lucknow

'Be Aware Be Safe', this was the theme of awareness session that was organised in Lucknow at Christian Degree College. Ms Manorama Verma, Project Coordinator of the HIV/AIDS Helpline conducted the session and addressed the queries of participants about HIV/AIDS epidemic, myths and misconception.

Eastern Region:

Programme on HIV/AIDS Workplace Policy


CII along with American Center, Dr. Jpelwerf and International Labour Organisation (ILO) organised an interactive session with HR Managers and Trade Union Leaders. This was organised on HIV/AIDS on 28th November 2007. Mr Henry Jardine, US Consulate General, inaugurated the programme.

A videoconference was organised with International Labour Organisation (ILO), at New Delhi where they brought in representatives from companies such as SAB Miller and Ambuja Cements, which have HIV/AIDS policy. Mr Afsar from ILO also shared their experience with their partners and their workplace intervention programme.

This was followed by a question and answer round. Participants addressed their questions to ILO and the companies. Mr P K Sen, senior advisor, CII, concluded the programme with vote of thanks.
