  • CII spreads awareness on Drugs and HIV/AIDS amongst industrial workers in Haryana

CII Haryana State Council organised awareness session on drugs and HIV/AIDS at RICO Auto Industries Ltd on 27th June 2006. This was part of a series of sensitisation sessions planned for the year 2006-07 on HIV/AIDS based on the theme: ‘Listen, Learn and Live: Prevention is Cure’,

The medium used was infotainment to sensitise the industrial workforce. CII’s NGO partners JAGRAN and SAHARA participated in this. JAGRAN presented two plays: Radheshyam ki Kahani and Mela. The first play focused on drugs and how youth gets addicted to it through peer pressure. It was through the first play that a connection was made to the second play where different routes of transmission were shown. Apart from Prevention, issue of Stigma and Discrimination were also addressed.

Mr. Naveen Kumar from SAHARA, himself a positive person, cleared myths and misconception of the workforce. He addressed different queries of the participants such as: Can mosquito bite make a person HIV+? How does the virus gets transmitted from a woman to a man? He also spoke about Anti- Retroviral Therapy (ART) and emphasised on the need of its regular usage.

Earlier Mr. Surendra Singh, VP Corporate, RICO, in his welcome address emphasised the importance of giving HIV/AIDS information to the workforce especially youth as it is vulnerable, and majority of the youth form part of the industrial workforce. He lauded CII Haryana State Council’s efforts towards working on such a sensitive subject and reaching out to the industrial workforce.

The workshop was very interactive and was attended by over 125 shop floors workers.
