  • Freedom Foundation

    Freedom Foundation has been engaged in the area HIV/AIDS comprehensive care & support since. It has set up the first community based comprehensive care and support center in India at Bangalore and is recognised as a model by NACO and other International agencies. Today the Freedom Foundation operates from 35 sites at various locations across the 4 states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, & Goa. Each location has a series of interventions linking up the continuum of Prevention to Care and Support, (HIV/AIDS & Substance Abuse) with a wide spectrum of services. All interventions are low cost, effective, long-term impact models.

    It was one of the first organisations to set up Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) in various public and private sector companies in India. Working extensively with the various trade unions and senior managements in the public sector, the Freedom Foundation has successfully demonstrated EAP programmes in large public sector industries.

    The Freedom Foundation is a recipient of the Global Fund for AIDS, TB & Malaria (GFATM) – round 2 & sub recipient of GFATM – round 4 of the India grant. In round 2, Freedom Foundation along with ARCON (Mumbai) & YRG Care (Chennai) is setting up a graduated cost recovery process to initially enable 4500 clients to access ART at Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore & Hyderabad.

    In round 4, Freedom Foundation along with INP +, Engender Health, PFI, & CII, is addressing the care and support needs of 1,37,000 clients in the six high prevalence states of Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Maharastra, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, & Nagaland who will be eligible for the Government of India’s ART roll out plan. Freedom Foundation along with INP + will be the principle service providers at all locations. Under this project, Freedom Foundation has set-up a 50-bedded comprehensive Care Centre in Andhra Pradesh at Guntur and will establish 3 more across Mahrashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka

  • International Projects

    The Freedom Foundation in partnership with the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation has been contracted by the government of Nigeria to replicate the Freedom Foundations strategies and model in Nigeria. A similar initiative is being planed in Botswana.

    Freedom Foundation is the recipient of many International awards for its work in the Substance Abuse / HIV/AIDS sector. UNAIDS has published a case study of the Freedom Foundation as a “Center of Excellence” and “Best Practice” on Comprehensive Care. The first Commonwealth Award for “Action on HIV/AIDS” was conferred on the Freedom Foundation for its “Outstanding Work in Comprehensive Care” in 2001. The US based ASHOKA – Innovators for the Public, conferred a Fellowship award to Dr. Ashok Rau, Executive Trustee & CEO, Freedom Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship. UNAIDS has presented the Freedom Foundation with an award for its work an award for “Excellence in Community Care” in 2004.
