Sensitising the Industry on HIV/AIDS using Infotainment
Keeping CII’s mandate to sensitise industry on HIV/AIDS in mind and also emphasising on mainstreaming the issue, Haryana State Council, under its Social Development Panel, has decided to sensitise some 1000 shop floor workers for the year 2006-2007 using the medium of Infotainment on HIV/AIDS. The panel felt that HIV/AIDS really needs to be taken to the community level and hence the focus has been to sensitise workmen, who would take information to their families and community.
This has been done in partnership with NGOs: JAGRAN and SAHARA. The module comprises of 2 plays on Drugs and HIV/AIDS: ‘Radhe Shyam Ki Kahani’ and Mela’ followed by a counseling and interactive session where queries of participants gets addressed. The session focuses on basics of HIV/AIDS which includes removing myths and misconceptions, distinguishing HIV and AIDS, different routes of transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS, giving information on testing centers, on Anti Retroviral Therapy and Opportunistic Infections and talk by a positive person on living with HIV.
Till date we have sensitised 675 workers in various companies based in Haryana which include manufacturing and automobile companies.
